Joe DeGeorge in his studioHi, I'm Joe DeGeorge. I am a composer, musician, and sound artist living in Providence, Rhode Island. I play many instruments, specializing in synthesis, keyboards and saxophones. I have a degree in physics from Clark University. I worked for NASA and for a jingle company called Ocean State Jingle Lot. I have toured as a performing musician with Harry and the Potters and Downtown Boys internationally from New Zealand, to Sweden and in between. I score films, create fantasy synthesizer soundscapes, and I have a dedicated saxophone practice. I am sometimes credited with founding a genre of music known as "wizard rock."

sound effect, sonic branding, synthesizer design

I composed this news style sound effect using analog synthesis and sequencing as a commission for an online video series entitled "Quarantime News."

  theme song, composition, synthesizers

I created the theme song for the long running YouTube series by Jackson Bird titled "Will it Waffle."

composition, synthesizer design, performance, saxophone, recording

"Dance for One Minute" "Leaf Dance"

These selected dances were comissioned by the Ricky Rainbow Beard Show in Providence, RI. They were recorded using software synths, electric piano, slide whistle, saxophone, and field recordings of rustling leaves I had made near the Fantoft Stave Church in Bergen.

sound, composition, score, synthesizers, audio post production

In addition to the score, I did the audio post-prodution for "Suki Sleeping," a short experimental VR 2.5D stereo animation produced by eleVR studios.

  composition, synthesizer performance, field recording

In August 2020, I took a four track cassette recorder into the the woods in New Hampshire and for a couple of days composed and recorded a fantasy synthesizer album titled "The Weald." This selection is titled "Journal of the Forager." Much of this tape recording has ambient forest sounds recorded live on site. Please get in touch if you would like me to live-score your next fantasy role playing game.

  composition, synthesizer performance, field recording

This is very much a sequel to my previous work "The Weald." All of it was recorded within a few days using a 4 track tape recorder a couple of microphones and synthesizers and saxophones. It was largely improvised on the spot. It is programmatic fantasy synthesizer music.

  sound design, foley, recording

I created the sound and worked as a foley artist for this animation promoting the "Union of Musicians and Allied Workers campaign "Justice at Spotify."

  theme song, composition, performance, recording

This theme song was commissioned by the Providence Comics Consortium to be played at the beginning and end of live events. Much of the percussion of this song was prouduced using materials related to comics such as pens, paper, and staplers.

production, writing, acting, sound design, score, engineering, foley, collage

My brother, Paul, and I created The Cephalopodcast, a twice monthly podcast that ran for two years, hosted by a giant squid trying to make sense of a world full of humans and pollution. I engineered and scored all the episodes, sometimes with found sounds, many times creating my own. I was the main voice actor throughout the series. One of my favorite spinoffs we made with the Giant Squidstravaganza was a relaxation cassette tape.

theme song, composition, performance, recording, soundscapes

I created the soundscapes and composed the theme for the Surf and Turf Podcast, hosted by the poet, Laura Brown Lavoie.

  scoring, recording

I created this opening segment to introduce the one hour Snitchwiches infomercial/musical delivered at Leaky Con in Boston 2019. Milo MacPhail did the voiceover.
